Polar Bears, Bluefin Tuna, Spared from CITES Trade Ban

Polar bear parts and Atlantic bluefin tuna may still be traded internationally, as a result of a recent Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species meeting in Doha, Qatar.  A U.S representative says that first attempts to list species are often unsuccessful.

Safari Club and NRA Oppose Montana Initiative I-161

Safari Club International, Rocky-Mountain Elk Foundation, and the National Rifle Association have announced their opposition to Montana initiative 8-161, which would eliminate guaranteed outfitter tags. One big issue is “wildlife management by ballot,” where issues can be confused by emotion rather than decided by reason.

Beverly Caribou Herd Collapse Holds Warning for Bathurst Herd

The Beverly caribou herd has dropped from hundreds of thousands of animals down to 2,000, according to Alex Hall, a Fort Smith  outfitter who used to be a wildlife biologist.  This could indicate the direction of the Bathurst herd, which has seen hunting severely restricted.

Canada Bans Polar Bear Exports from Baffin Bay
